Steam guides / Price estimates

Put the price in perspective.

Library value adds available USD catalog prices. It helps you explore your games, but it cannot tell you how much you spent or what your account could sell for.

Is library value my Steam account value?

Mostly, yes. What many people call Steam account value is the total catalog price of the games they own, and that is what library value adds up. It is a useful way to answer “how much is my Steam account worth?” as long as you read it as the price of the games, not money you could get back. Steam accounts cannot be sold under Steam’s terms, so there is no real resale price.

Why isn’t it my actual spending?

The tool does not read your purchase history. Bundles, gifts, sales, regional pricing and changes to a game’s price can make the catalog estimate different from what you paid. All money here is labelled USD; changing currency would still not turn it into a Steam regional quote.

What does “Pending” mean?

Ownership and hours can arrive before the catalog price is ready. Unknown prices are excluded from the value total and shown as Pending. A known free game is different: its catalog price is $0.00.

The profile states how many owned games have known prices. If only some are covered, read the total as a partial estimate. A game can stay pending if usable catalog details are unavailable.

How is cost per hour calculated?

For one covered game, divide its catalog price by its hours played. A $30 game played for 60 hours has an estimated cost of $0.50 per hour. At 120 hours, the same price gives $0.25 per hour.

The profile average divides covered catalog value by the hours in those same covered games. It does not use hours from games whose prices are unknown. This keeps partial coverage from artificially lowering the result.

For zero covered playtime, the current API uses $0.00 as its zero-denominator convention. That is not evidence that a paid, unplayed game was free.

Is lower always better?

A long game tends to have a lower estimate than a short one at the same price. That does not measure enjoyment, quality or the value of a memorable short experience. Use the number as another view of your library.
