Steam guides/ Time spent on Steam

All those hours. Wasted? Hardly.

Steam keeps a playtime counter for every game you own. Add them up and you get your total time on Steam, which is usually more than people expect.

Check your total Steam hours

Paste your Steam profile link or custom name below. Steam Playtime adds the hours of every owned game, shows your most-played games and estimates what your library is worth. Your profile and Game details need to be public. Not sure where to find your profile link?

How much is that in days?

Divide your total hours by 24 for full days. 1,000 hours is almost 42 days of non-stop play; 5,000 hours is close to seven months. Spread over ten years of owning games, 1,000 hours is about 16 minutes a day, which puts the number in perspective.

What counts as playtime?

Steam counts the time a game is running through the Steam client, including time it sits idle or minimized in the background. Games left open overnight, or played offline before syncing, can therefore show more hours than you remember actually playing.

Games launched outside Steam, such as some multiplayer titles with their own launcher, may not be counted at all. Steam also lets players hide their total playtime even when their game list is visible.

Is it time wasted?

Only you can answer that. A game you played for 300 hours with friends cost less per hour than a movie ticket. Thecost per hourview is one way to see which games gave you the most for your money.
